Anti-lockdown protests were quickly banned. When, in September 2020, the Cabinet Office tried to exempt demonstrations from the ‘rule of six’, Hancock enlisted Michael Gove to “kill it off”, arguing that marches would “undermine public confidence in social distancing”.
