26日夜、長崎市の雑居ビルに入っているマジックバーで火事があり、店の経営者でマジシャンの小川心平さん(59)が、全身をやけどして死亡した。
ちのぼる白い煙に反射する消防車の赤色灯の光。
目撃者は、「すごい音だった。ドーンという音。赤い炎が噴き出していました。だから、尋常じゃないなというのは思いましたね」と話した。
33年前、地元、長崎のテレビ番組で、マジックを披露していた小川さん。
小川さんを知る人は、「ここ1日、2日のうちに、どこかでイベントがあるということで、準備をしてたんじゃないだろうか」と話した。
この火事で、小川さんの店があるビルの2階と3階の一部、およそ340平方メートルが焼け、およそ2時間半後に消し止められた。

The Society of American Magicians (S.A.M.) is the oldest fraternal magic organization in the world. Its purpose is "to advance, elevate, and preserve magic as a performing art, to promote harmonious fellowship throughout the world of magic, and to maintain and improve ethical standards in the field of magic."[1] To promote these endeavors the S.A.M. presents awards and fellowships in recognition of outstanding achievement in the Art of Magic.
Membership in the S.A.M. is open to professional magicians, amateur magicians, youth magicians, magic collectors, magic historians, magic inventors, magic manufacturers and magic dealers. Over 30,000 people worldwide have been members,[1] and currently the S.A.M. has 5,000 members worldwide.[2] The current President of the S.A.M. is Kenrick "ICE" McDonald, while past S.A.M. president George Schindler is the current dean.
George Schindler is an American stage magician, magic consultant, comedian, actor, ventriloquist and writer based in New York. In addition to creating noteworthy illusions and publishing many books on magic, Schindler has performed at venues around the world and is currently "lifetime dean" of the Society of American Magicians, having previous tenure in the "S.A.M. Hall of Fame" as well as president and spokesperson.[1] From the 1950s to the 1960s, he had also been a frequent contributor to Billboard Magazine's comedy, magic and vaudeville columns.
Born of Russian Jewish and Ukrainian Jewish descent in Brooklyn's Brighton Beach neighborhood, Schindler first picked up an appreciation for magic at age 11 after seeing a magician at his school make a live goldfish appear in thin air. While studying card and sleight of hand illusions during his teens, Schindler entertained friends and relatives in Brooklyn and the Bronx, apprenticed for various New York City-area magic shops and eventually carried out magic acts before a community center audience in Bensonhurst. By his early twenties, he had worked his way up to nightclub, casino, theater and street festival gigs throughout New York City and Long Island.[2]
Concurrent to his study of magic during the 1940s, Schindler had been a co-founder and early member of F.A.M.E.[3] ("Future American Magical Entertainers"), an organization of young magicians whose alumni at the same time had also included Howie Schwarzman, Dick Brooks, Carl Ballantine and Shari Lewis, among others. Lewis' father, Abraham Hurwitz, a magician and Yeshiva University professor, headed F.A.M.E. The club lasted until Hurwitz' death in 1981, in which F.A.M.E. splintered into other groups, namely the Society of Young Magicians.

【オーデンセ＝共同】デンマークの「ハンス・クリスチャン・アンデルセン文学賞」の今年の受賞者に選ばれた作家の村上春樹さん（67）は30日、童話作家アンデルセンの出身地、デンマーク・オーデンセでの授賞式に出席した。英語のスピーチで「どれだけ高い壁を築き、厳しく部外者を排除し、自分たちに都合よく歴史を書き換えても、結局は自分を傷つけるだけだ」と語った。
壁や部外者などの意味するところは明言しなかったが、世界各地で深刻化する難民・移民など「他者」への排斥感情や、歴史修正の動きに警鐘を鳴らしたとみられる。
「影の持つ意味」と題するスピーチで、主人公の影がいつの間にか独り歩きを始め、恐ろしい結末につながるアンデルセンの作品「影」に触れ「個人だけでなく全ての社会と国家には影があり、個人と同様、向き合わなければならない」と指摘。「向き合わなければいつか影はもっと強大になって戻ってくるだろう」と述べた。
村上さんには賞金50万デンマーククローネ（約770万円）と、アンデルセンの作品にちなんで「醜いアヒルの子」の銅像も贈られた。
同賞委員会は昨年11月に村上さんへの授与を発表。「古典的な語り口やポップカルチャー、日本の伝統、夢のような現実、哲学的議論を大胆に融合させた力量はアンデルセンの功績の継承者にふさわしい」と評価した。
同賞はアンデルセンが世界の作家に与えた影響をたたえる目的で2007年に創設され、受賞者は村上さんで５人目。過去には「ハリー・ポッター」シリーズで著名な英作家Ｊ・Ｋ・ローリングさんも受賞している。
ノーベル文学賞の有力候補者とも目される村上さんは、フランツ・カフカ賞（チェコ）など海外での受賞歴も多い。

市庁舎での授賞式では、デンマークのフレデリック皇太子の妻メアリー妃が村上氏に賞を授与。副賞として５０万デンマーク・クローネ（約７７０万円）と、同国の著名彫刻家による「みにくいアヒルの子」像が贈られた。
村上氏はスピーチで、アンデルセンの異色作「影」を取り上げ、「私が小説を書く時、物語の暗いトンネルを抜けると、まったく予期していなかった自分に出会う。それが私自身の『影』に違いない」と指摘。必要なのは、それを正確かつ大胆に描写し、逃げずに分析もしないことだと語った。
その上で「アンデルセンが生きた１９世紀でも、われわれの２１世紀でも、必要なら影と直面し対決しなければならない」と述べた。さらに、それは個人だけでなく、社会のレベルでも必要だと指摘。「侵入者に対しどれだけ高い壁を築こうが、部外者をどれだけ厳しく排除しようが、歴史をどれだけ自分に都合よく書き換えようが、結局は自分を傷つけるだけだ。われわれは影と共に生きることを学ばなければならない」と結論付けた。（2016/10/31-00:27）
