 "Fox on the Run" is a song by the British glam rock band Sweet, first recorded in 1974. It was the first Sweet single written by the band, rather than producers Nicky Chinn and Mike Chapman, and was their 14th single overall. The song became the best charting single in Australia in 1975, with six weeks at number one.^[4]

Two versions were recorded by Sweet. The original version was produced by Mike Chapman in association with Nicky Chinn on the European version of the 1974 album Desolation Boulevard. Sweet also recorded and produced a more pop-oriented version as a 7" single in 1975, which is the more familiar version of the song. The 1975 single version was included on the Capitol Records version of Desolation Boulevard.

The song's inclusion in the trailer for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 led to the song reaching number one on the iTunes Rock Chart in late 2016.^[5][6]

Background

"Fox" being slang for an attractive woman, the lyrics are apparently about one of the band's groupies;^[7] Bomp! called the song "a definitive hard-rock bubblegum record" and "one of the last glitter classics".^[3]

 "Action" is a self-written and produced 1975 song by British glam rock band Sweet.

Background

The song went through several iterations; a 7" single version was recorded at Ian Gillan's Kingsway Studios in London and slightly different versions appear on the albums Strung Up and Give Us a Wink.The lyrics refer to Sweet's negative treatment as pop stars, particularly by the music press, and to the demands of the music industry. The track features a masked "backwards vocal" with the words "You kiss my arse".

The first verse has a striking resemblance to the hard rock section of Queen's "Bohemian Rhapsody", which was not released for another 4 months. Lead singer Brian Connolly called it a "blatant rip-off".

 

"Love Is Like Oxygen" is a song by the British band Sweet and released in January 1978. It was co-written by the group's guitarist Andy Scott, and Trevor Griffin, a musician who had played with various unsuccessful bands before becoming a roadie and sound engineer.^{[citation needed]} The song was a departure from earlier recordings by Sweet, which were more guitar-driven, and featured high vocal harmonies. The extended album version of the song (6 minutes 57 seconds), which appeared on their album Level Headed, incorporates strings and has some disco elements.

Their first release on the Polydor label after their departure from RCA, it was also their last Top 10 hit, reaching No. 4 in New Zealand; No. 6 in Switzerland; No. 8 in Belgium, Canada, and the United States; No. 9 in the United Kingdom and Australia; and No. 10 in West Germany.

Later that year it was honoured with a Song of the Year nomination at the Ivor Novello Awards, although beaten by "Baker Street" by Gerry Rafferty. The song is frequently included on greatest hits compilations, usually in its edited single version. 

 "Baker Street" is a song written and performed by Scottish singer-songwriter Gerry Rafferty. Released as a single in 1978, it reached No. 1 in Cash Box and No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100,^[1] where it held its Billboard position for six weeks, blocked from the top spot by Andy Gibb's "Shadow Dancing".^{[citation needed]}

The song spent four weeks at No. 1 in Canada,^[2] reached No. 1 in Australia^[3] and South Africa,^{[citation needed]} hit No. 3 in the United Kingdom,^[4] and made it into the top 10 in the Netherlands.^{[citation needed]}

Rafferty received the 1978 Ivor Novello Award for Best Song Musically and Lyrically.^[5] The arrangement is known for its saxophone riff.^[6]
