Jeffrey Carlson (June 23, 1975 – July 6, 2023) was an American, Broadway, film, television actor and singer, known for his role as the transgender character, Zoe on the long-running daytime soap opera All My Children.[1]
Education[edit]
Carlson was born in Long Beach, California. His mother named him Jeffrey because she was a fan of All My Children and of the character Jeff Martin on the show. He studied acting at the University of California Davis, where he graduated in 1997[2] with a B.A. in dramatic art. Carlson then trained at New York City's Juilliard School as a member of the Drama Division's Group 30 (1997–2001).[3]
Jeff Martin is a fictional character from the ABC soap opera All My Children. He is the oldest son of Joseph "Joe" Martin Sr. and his deceased wife, Helen Martin. Dr. Jeff Martin was played by Christopher Wines, Charles Frank, Robert Perault, James O'Sullivan, Jeffrey Byron, John Tripp, and John James.
Storylines[edit]
Dr. Joe Martin left California following the death of his wife Helen to return to his native Pine Valley, Pennsylvania with children Jeff, Tara, and Bobby (The character of Bobby was later dropped from the show.) to live with his mother, Kate Martin.
While in medical school Jeff fell in love with Pine Valley resident Erica Kane. The two married and Erica began to pursue a modeling career. Money problems arose, Erica became very bored with Jeff's long hours and lack of money and both began to stray from their marriage.
Dr. Joe Martin, the head of one of the founding families in Pine Valley, was a widower raising two children, Jeff and Tara, when he met Ruth Brent, a nurse at the hospital where he worked. He fell hard for her but she married and had to resist his love and attraction. But Ruths alcoholic husband died in a car accident and Joe comforted her. The two fell in love and married in April 1972.
When Charles Tyler, Chief of Staff, died, Joe assumed his position. His history at Pine Valley Hospital has been nearly impeccable, except for a brief time when he was forced to step down by allegations made by conniving David Hayward. Joe has survived a tornado that almost took Tad's life, had a massive heart attack brought on by a confrontation with Dimitri Marick, and dealt with all the problems that have affected his children. He is the patriarch of Pine Valley and usually the steady voice of reason.
