TOKYO, March 8. /TASS/. Japan imposed sanctions on 20 more Russians including businessmen and officials due to the situation around Ukraine and Russia’s military operation, according to a list published on the website of the Japanese Foreign Ministry on Tuesday.
The list includes Kremlin Spokesman Dmitry Peskov, presidential administration’s First Deputy Head Sergey Kiriyenko, presidential administration’s Deputy Head Dmitry Kozak and Head of Chechnya Ramzan Kadyrov. The list also includes Russian businessmen including the Rotenberg brothers, Gennady Timchenko and Alisher Usmanov. The sanctions also affect two organizations: the Internet Research Agency and private military company Wagner.
In addition, Japan published an additional list of sanctions on Belarus which includes 12 individuals and 10 Belarusian companies and organizations.

The Internet Research Agency (IRA; Russian: Агентство интернет-исследований translit: Agentstvo Internet-Issledovaniy), also known as Glavset[1] and known in Russian Internet slang as the Trolls from Olgino, is a Russian company engaged in online influence operations on behalf of Russian business and political interests.[2] It is linked to Russian oligarch Yevgeny Prigozhin and based in Saint Petersburg, Russia.
The Wagner Group (Russian: Группа Вагнера, romanized: Gruppa Vagnera), also known as PMC Wagner, ChVK Wagner (ChVK being the Russian abbreviation for Private Military Company),[34] or CHVK Vagner (ЧВК Вагнера ChVK Vagnera, Частная Военная Компания Вагнера), is a Russian paramilitary organization. Some observers have described it as a private military company or private military contracting agency, whose contractors have reportedly taken part in various conflicts, including operations in the Syrian civil war on the side of the Syrian government, as well as in the war in Donbas in Ukraine aiding the separatist forces of the self-declared Donetsk and Luhansk People's Republics from 2014 to 2015. Others, including reports in The New York Times, consider ChVK Wagner an arms-length unit of the Russian Ministry of Defence (MoD) and/or the GRU[35] in disguise, which is used by the Russian government in conflicts where deniability is called for, as its forces are trained on MoD installations.
The Wagner Group is believed to be owned by Yevgeny Prigozhin, a businessman with close links to Russian President Vladimir Putin. It has been accused of war crimes in areas where it was deployed.[36][37]
Prigozhin was born in Leningrad (now Saint Petersburg) June 1, 1961,[11] to Violetta Prigozhina (Russian: Виолетта Пригожина).[1][12][13] He graduated from an athletics boarding school in 1977 and was engaged in cross-country skiing.[1] His father and stepfather were of Russian-Jewish descent, while his mother is of ethnic Russian descent.[14]
