US Omicron cases jump by 27% overnight to 241: Cornell University warns its 930 infections could ALL be new strain as it shuts down campus
- The Omicron COVID-19 variant has been sequenced 241 times in 37 U.S. states, including Washington D.C., as the variant continues to spread nationwide
- The CDC reported Tuesday that the variant now accounts for 3% of sequenced of cases - a seven-fold increased from last week, although in NY and NJ the variant is believed to be behind 13% of cases
- It is feared that a 'tidal wave' of Omicron is headed for US shores, with the UK recording its biggest one day case total ever on Thursday- 78,610 - with 10,000 of those cases confirmed as Omicron
- One of the largest US outbreaks of the Omicron variant to date is believed to have occurred at Cornell University in Ithaca, New York, where almost all 930 cases over the past week are believed to be of the variant
- All of the confirmed Omicron cases in the Cornell University are among people who are fully vaccinated, and some of them are in people who've also had boosters
- Cases in the U.S. have increased by 46% over the past two weeks, and deaths are up 40% - as the country eclipsed 800,000 total deaths and 50 million total cases earlier this week
- In the UK, cases continue to grow, though deaths caused by the virus have actually decreased over the past two weeks
- A recent South African study finds that Omicron spread faster than other virus variants, but is 20% less likely to cause hospitalization

Corunna (/kəˈrʌnə/ CORE-UN-NUH)[6] is a city and county seat of Shiawassee County in the U.S. state of Michigan.[7] The population was 3,497 at the 2010 census.[8] The city is surrounded by Caledonia Charter Township and is slightly east of the city of Owosso.
History
Corunna was platted in 1837.[9] It was made the county seat in 1840, incorporated as a village in 1858 and made a city in 1869.[10] Andrew Parsons, tenth Michigan Governor (March 8, 1853 – January 3, 1855), was a long-time resident of Corunna. A historical marker commemorating Parsons in Corunna was erected in 1969.[11]
The city's name comes from the spanish city La Coruña, in the north of Spain.

There is no clear evidence as to what the name derives from. It seems to be from Crunia, of unknown origin and meaning. At the time of Ferdinand II of León (reigned 1157–1188) the name Crunia was documented for the first time. As usual in Galician-Portuguese (as well as in Castilian Spanish), the cluster ni naturally evolved into the sound [ɲ], written n, nn or nh in old Galician orthography, nn in Spanish (later abbreviated to ñ, like the original Latin cluster "nn"), and nh in Portuguese and alternative Galician spelling. "A" is the Galician-Portuguese article equivalent to English the; compare Castilian Spanish la ("the").
One proposed etymology derives Crunia from Cluny, the town in France. During its height (c. 950–c.1130) the Cluniac religious movement became very prominent in Europe. There is another town named Coruña in Burgos Province.
A more likely possibility is that the name simply means "The Crown", which in Galician is A Coroa and in Spanish is La Corona. It seems less likely that it traces back to the Galician clunia.[citation needed] The name is reputedly from the Greek Κορώνα (Crown), referring to the crown of Geryon that was buried by Hercules under the lighthouse he built to his honour. The hero Hercules slew the giant tyrant Geryon after three days and three nights of continuous battle. Hercules then—in a Celtic gesture—buried the head of Geryon with his weapons and ordered that a city be built on the site. The lighthouse atop a skull and crossbones representing the buried head of Hercules' slain enemy appears in the coat-of-arms of the city of A Coruña, Loukeris (2019).[9][10]
A proxy evolution within the Portuguese language points out to the Latin word Colonya as its origin, where the L was transformed into R which occurs widely in Portuguese. A similar happening can be found today in Coronie, a Surinamese town which also made its course outside the Portuguese system.
A folk etymology incorrectly derives Coruña from the ancient columna, or Tower of Hercules.[citation n

Christopher John Cornell (né Boyle; July 20, 1964 – May 18, 2017) was an American singer, songwriter, and musician best known as the lead vocalist and rhythm guitarist for the rock bands Soundgarden and Audioslave. He also had a solo career and contributed to soundtracks. Cornell was also the founder and frontman of Temple of the Dog, a one-off tribute band dedicated to his late friend Andrew Wood.
Cornell is considered one of the key figures of the 1990s grunge movement, and is well known for his extensive catalog as a songwriter, his nearly four-octave vocal range,[2] and his powerful vocal belting technique. He released four solo studio albums, Euphoria Morning (1999), Carry On (2007), Scream (2009), and Higher Truth (2015); the live album Songbook (2011); and two compilations, The Roads We Choose (2007) and Chris Cornell (2018), the latter released posthumously. He received a Golden Globe Award nomination for his song "The Keeper", which appeared in the 2011 film Machine Gun Preacher, and co-wrote and performed "You Know My Name", the theme song to the 2006 James Bond film Casino Royale. His last solo release before his death was the charity single "The Promise", written for the ending credits for the 2016 film of the same name.
Across his entire catalog, Cornell sold 14.8 million albums, 8.8 million digital songs, and 300 million on-demand audio streams in the U.S. alone,[3][4] as well as over 30 million records worldwide.[5][6][7] He was nominated for 18 Grammy Awards, winning three.[8][9] He was voted "Rock's Greatest Singer" by readers of Guitar World,[10] and ranked No. 4 on the list of "Heavy Metal's All-Time Top 100 Vocalists" by Hit Parader,[11] No. 9 on the list of "Best Lead Singers of All Time" by Rolling Stone,[12] and No. 12 on MTV's "22 Greatest Voices in Music".[13]
Cornell struggled with depression for most of his life. He was found dead in his Detroit hotel room in the early hours of May 18, 2017, after performing at a Soundgarden concert an hour earlier at the Fox Theatre. His death was ruled a suicide by hanging.[3]

パープルヘイズというフレーズ自体は、1861年ごろに印刷されたチャールズ・ディケンズの大いなる遺産の54章の"There was the red sun, on the low level of the shore, in a purple haze, fast deepening into black..."という部分に登場する。
