米モデルナ製の新型コロナウイルスワクチンは、米ファイザー製よりもインド由来の変異ウイルス「デルタ株」に対する感染予防効果が高い可能性があると、米国の研究チームがまとめた。
米国の医療機関メイヨー・クリニックなどのチームは、ミネソタ州のワクチン接種者と非接種者計約５万人のデータを解析した。デルタ株の感染割合が７０％に達した７月時点で、感染予防効果はファイザー製で４２％だったのに対し、モデルナ製は７６％と高かった。
デルタ株がほとんど確認されなかった今年初め時点での感染予防効果はファイザー製７６％、モデルナ製８６％。いずれもデルタ株の出現で効果が低下したが、モデルナ製の方が低下の幅が小さかったとみられる。
一方、重症化などによる入院を防ぐ効果は、デルタ株に対してもいずれも小幅の低下にとどまった。
森田公一・長崎大熱帯医学研究所長（ウイルス学）の話「様々な要因が考えられるため、今回の結果だけで２社のワクチンの比較は難しいが、ワクチンの有効性を追跡したデータは今後、３回目の接種などを検討する上で重要だ」
