しかし、世界中で驚くべき速度で生殖能力を低下させているホルモンかく乱化学物質のために、その人類の終焉は私たちが思っているよりも早く訪れるのかもしれない。
ニューヨークのマウントサイナイ医科大学の環境生殖疫学者であるシャンナ・スワン（Shanna Swan）博士が記した『カウントダウン （Countdown）』と呼ばれる新しい著作では、人間の精子の数が 1973年以来ほぼ 60％減少したことが示されている。
このままの状態だと、スワン氏の研究によれば、人間の精子数は 2045年までには「ゼロ」に達する可能性があることを示唆している。ゼロだ。
これは、そのような社会では、赤ちゃんが生まれないことを意味する。そうなれば、もう人間はそこには存在し得なくなる。
なぜ、このような問題を、国際社会は真剣に論議しないのだろう。
この危機の原因となる化学物質は、プラスチックの容器や食品の包装から、クリーニング製品の防水服、香水、石鹸やシャンプー、電子機器やカーペットに至るまで、あらゆるものに含まれている「 PFAS 」と呼ばれる物質だ。
それらは環境や人体内で分解しないため「永遠の化学物質」として知られている。
