米朝首脳会談のために設置されたトランプ米大統領のメディア本部は26日、ハノイ中心部のメリアホテルに北朝鮮の金正恩朝鮮労働党委員長が到着する数時間前に急遽、同ホテルから別の場所への移動を余儀なくされた。

ベトナム外務省がツイッター投稿で明らかにしたところでは、ホワイトハウス・メディアセンターはメリアホテルから数ブロック離れた国際メディアセンターに移る。メリアホテルは25日、宿泊客に対し、「当ホテルに滞在する国家元首の訪問のため」の警備強化を了承するよう求めた。具体的な人名は明らかにしなかった。

26日午前の段階でメリアホテルには警備態勢が敷かれ、同ホテルへのアクセスは厳しく制限されていた。同ホテル近くには武器を携帯した軍人と大型の軍用車両２台が配備された。金委員長の身辺警護要員やスタッフが同ホテル内で見掛けられた。

メリアホテルには米朝首脳会談を取材する多くの米国人ジャーナリストも滞在する。ホワイトハウスはまだ、首脳会談の開催場所を明らかにしていない。両首脳は27日夜、夕食を共にして会談に入る。サンダース米大統領報道官は「ソーシャルディナー」としている。
