Sanders was referring to the Green Revolution of 2009, where thousands of protesters in Iran took to the streets to contest the reelection of president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad. The protesters reached out to the Obama State Department for support but were met with silence. The Green Revolution was ultimately put down viciously with many deaths and arrests.

Jail! Trump blasts Hillary's top aide Huma Abedin for sending State Dept. passwords to her Yahoo email and calls on 'deep state' Justice Department to act against her
President slammed Huma Abedin for once sending her State Department passwords to her own unsecure Yahoo account
All of Yahoo's user accounts were hacked years after Abedin used hers as a landing pad for everything she wanted to print – including passwords
Trump compared Abedin to jailed U.S. sailor Kristian Saucier, who drew a one-year prison term for photographing classified areas of a nuclear submarine
President said a year ago that he would consider pardoning Saucier
White House says 'the facts of that case are very disturbing and 'the president wants to make clear that he doesn't feel that anyone should be above the law'
Trump also 'doesn't believe the entire Justice Department is part of' a 'deep state' bent on sabotaging him, the White House press secretary said

A Hillary Clinton donor paid $500,000 to fund women who would accuse Trump of sexual misconduct
by Alana Mastrangelo | Jan 2, 2018, 2:10 PM
One of Hillary Clinton’s major campaign donors paid $500,000 in an attempt to fund women accusing then-candidate Donald Trump of sexual misconduct, according to a New York Times report on Sunday.
Susie Tompkins Buell, a friend and longtime donor to the Clintons, gave the $500,000 to celebrity lawyer Lisa Bloom. Clinton operative David Brock was reported to have added an additional $200,000 through a nonprofit organization he founded.
Lisa Bloom is a lawyer known for representing celebrity clients, including Harvey Weinstein and Kathy Griffin. Bloom is the also the daughter of celebrity lawyer Gloria Allred, who represented one of the women who accused Roy Moore of sexual assault.
While vetting potential Trump accusers in 2016, Bloom said she also sought out additional donors, soliciting them by saying that more money was needed for security and potential relocation after the paid accusers go public. In another report by The Hill, Bloom had also solicited political action committees in support of Hillary Clinton.
It was also reported that Bloom even offered to sell accusers’ stories to TV outlets, under the condition that Bloom also be compensated. Additionally, Bloom told one of the women that she could arrange for a donor to pay off her mortgage, and even offered another woman up to $750,000. None of the women took Bloom up on her offers.
Bloom told the New York Times that her venture ended up being unproductive and that none of the women wanted to move forward with the plan. Bloom added that one woman even requested $2 million in order to proceed with her accusation but subsequently decided not to take part in the endeavor.
Consequently, Bloom said she had to refund the Clinton donor most of the money, but that she kept some of it. The money that was kept, Bloom says, went to the expenses that she accumulated while vetting the potential women willing to publicly accuse Trump.
According to the New York Times, representatives of the Clinton campaign claim they were unaware that Brock, one of their operatives, was working with Bloom during the 2016 election.
