北京（ＣＮＮ） 米プロバスケットボールＮＢＡの元スター選手、デニス・ロッドマン氏は１３日、北京の空港から北朝鮮へ向かう前に報道陣の取材を受け、「ちょっといいことをしたい」と訪朝の目的を語った。
ロッドマン氏は１２日に北京に到着し、１３日に北朝鮮への便に搭乗した。
搭乗前に、北朝鮮が現在米国人の学者ら４人を拘束している問題を北朝鮮側との話題にするかとの質問を受け、「今のところそれが目的ではない。私の目的は現地へ行って、北朝鮮にスポーツを届け続けることができるかどうかを探ることだ」と答えた。
同氏は２０１４年に訪朝した際、当時北朝鮮で服役中だった米国人の解放を求めなかったとして批判を浴びた経緯がある。
ＣＮＮは空港でロッドマン氏に、今回の訪朝で金正恩（キムジョンウン）朝鮮労働党委員長に会う予定はあるかと尋ねたが、同氏は答えなかった。トランプ米大統領から北朝鮮へのメッセージを届けるのかという質問にも返答はなかった。
ではトランプ氏と話はしたのかと聞かれると、「私はここに来て、トランプ氏と私がどちらも必要としていることを成し遂げようとしている。トランプ氏はきっとそのことを喜んでいると思う」と述べた。この発言が具体的に何を指しているのかは、はっきり分からなかった。
ロッドマン氏は両日とも、大麻取引に使われる電子マネー「ポットコイン」のロゴが描かれた黒いＴシャツを着ていた。
同氏は報道陣とのやり取りの後、ツイッターに「戻ってきた！ スポンサーに感謝」と書き込んだ。
