Sergei Pavlovich Roldugin (Russian: Сергей Павлович Ролдугин, born September 28, 1951 Sakhalin[1][2]) is a Russian cellist and businessman, based in St Petersburg.
He was awarded the 1980 Prague Spring International Music Festival Competition's 3rd prize. In 1984 Roldugin was appointed the Kirov Opera Theatre Orchestra's principal cellist. He subsequently held a professorship at the Saint Petersburg Conservatory, where he served as the institution's rector from 2002-05. The Mariinsky Theatre Orchestra's Guest Conductor, he has been named a People's Artist of Russia.

Since 1990s, Roldugin was engaged in oil and media business.[3]

Sergey Roldugin is a godfather to Maria Putina, Vladimir Putin's daughter.[4] He has been friends with Putin since the late 1970s.[5] In March 2016 The Guardian described Roldugin as "Putin's best friend". It was Roldugin who introduced Putin to Lyudmila, his future wife. Roldugin's brother Yevgeny was at KGB training school with Putin.[6]

In April 2016 the Organized Crime and Corruption Reporting Project described Roldugin as the "secret caretaker" of Putin's hidden wealth through his participation in transactions between various offshore companies.[7][8][9][10][11]

His first spouse was Irina Nikitina, President of the Musical Olympus Foundation.[12][13][14][15] His current spouse is Elena Mirtova (opera singer, soprano).[16]



Irina Nikitina was born in St.-Petersburg, Russia, in a family of a musician.

In 1986 Nikitina was awarded the Special prize at the International Music Competition in Geneva, in 1987 won the Grand Prix and First Prize at the International Competition in Paris, in 1992 became a prize-winner of the competition in Osaka, Japan.

Since 1991 Irina has been active as a producer and organized a range of international music projects. In October 1991 she held in St.-Petersburg the series of concerts of the International Davos festival. In May 1993, under the patronage of the Government of Switzerland and under the support of the ProHelvetia Foundation, Irina organized in the St. Petersburg Philharmonia the Swiss Music Week festival.

Irina Nikitina participated in the World Economic Forum in Davos in 1989 (she also appeared in a concert there) and in 1992. Since 1998 she has been its regular participant.

In September 1995 Irina Nikitina became the President of the Musical Olympus Foundation established upon her initiative in St.-Petersburg in the same year. The foundation is engaged in developing and implementing international cultural projects. In 2001 Irina Nikitina was rewarded with “Olympia“, the first National Award of Public Recognition for women in Russia.

Since 2003 she is a participant of the World Public Forum “Dialogue of Civilizations”. In 2005 at the “Dialogue of Civilizations“ Symposium in Havana together with Deputy Minister of Culture of Cuba Ismael Gonzales she held a session devoted to culture and traditions of Latin America. In 2007 she was a speaker and a section leader of the Culture Dialogue section at the symposium on Rhodes (Greece) and in Helsinki (Finland).

In 2006, Irina Nikitina was included in the list of top 50 most beautiful and famous people of St. Petersburg. In 2008, Irina Nikitina was appointed President of the Russian Federation’s Association of Performing Artists. In 2009, Irina Nikitina was named an honorary member of the “St. Andrew the First Called Foundation” and was awarded a medal for “Faith and Faithfullness“ by the foundation.
