英BBC放送は韓国の米軍慰安婦訴訟について報じた。韓国ではかつて在韓米軍基地周辺に基地村と呼ばれる売春街が存在した。売春は法律で禁じられていたが韓国政府は黙認、それどころか性病管理所で定期的な検査を実施するなど実質的な管理に携わっていたという。
今年6月、基地村での売春従事者122人が「国が米軍相手の慰安婦制度を作った」と政府を告訴。1人あたり1000万ウォン（約107万円）の賠償を求めている。「国が強制したわけではないとはいえ、国が売春制度を作った」と責任を問うている。
米ブルッキングス研究所のキャシー・ムーン教授は韓国政府にも一定の責任があるとの見解を示した。1970年代には韓国政府官僚が基地村を訪問し、「君たちの任務は米軍を喜ばせること。そうすれば米軍はずっと韓国にいてくれる」と発言した事例を紹介している。

The US Deputy Secretary of State has called on Korean-American civic groups to support an agreement reached between Japan and South Korea to settle the issue of those referred to as comfort women.
Antony Blinken spoke with NHK in Tokyo on Sunday. He said last month's agreement was reached because of the hard work, courage and vision of the two countries' leaders.
He also said the agreement can encourage Japan and South Korea to work on other issues they have in common.
Korean-American civic groups say the deal is unsatisfactory and said they will continue activities such as setting up statues in honor of the women.
Blinken said that he hopes those groups will instead follow in the spirit of actions taken by the governments of Japan and South Korea.

そして、アメリカの韓国系市民団体の一部が合意に反発し、慰安婦を象徴する銅像の設置などの活動を続ける方針を示していることについて、ブリンケン副長官は「われわれは、アメリカ国内を含めすべての人たちに合意を支持するよう求めており、合意の精神に従って行動することを望む」と述べました。
アメリカ政府は、北朝鮮の核開発や中国の海洋進出などを念頭に日米韓の連携を重視しており、今回の合意で日韓関係が改善に向かうよう、アメリカの韓国系団体に対して活動の自制を求める姿勢を示しました。
