米ロクシタン（L'OCCITANE）は26日、日本の民事再生法に当たる米連邦破産法第11条の適用をニュージャージー州の破産裁判所に申請した。新型コロナウイルスの影響で、実店舗の1割強を閉店する見込みだ。
リージョナル・マネジング・ディレクターのヤン・タニーニ（Yann Tanini）は裁判所に提出する書類の中で「パンデミック前から実店舗の売り上げは落ちており、コロナが業績悪化にさらに追い討ちをかけた」と記している。同社は実店舗の閉店やリースの解約をめぐり地主との交渉を進めていたが、難航したことが破綻につながったという。今後23店舗のリース解約を行う予定だ。
米ロクシタンは36州およびプエルトリコに166店舗を抱え、グローバルの全売り上げの9.1％を占めている。2020年4～12月の売上高は前年同期比21％減の1億1100万ドル（約115億円）だった。そのうち実店舗の売り上げは34％を占め、近年はECビジネスの方が好調だったという。同社は1億6100万ドル（約167億円）の資産と1億6200万ドル（約168億円）の負債を持ち、最大の無担保債権者は親会社のロクシタン グループ（L'OCCITANE GROUPE）だ。また従業員1051人のうちパンデミック中に325人を一時解雇し、その中でも165人が復職、40人がリストラされた。
なお、コロナの影響でサボン（SABON）の米事業も20年5月に米連邦破産法第11条の適用を申請した。
