テロ支援国が従軍慰安婦決議案支持表明

North Korea joins in as comfort women resolution gains more supporters in CongressWASHINGTON, May 2 (Yonhap) -- North Korea expressed support for a House resolution demanding Japan's apology for sexual enslavement during World War II as more congressmen were signing on as resolution co-sponsors, campaign leaders said Wednesday.

Soh Ok-cha, president of the Washington Coalition for Comfort Women Issues, said 103 congressmen have submitted their names as co-sponsors as of Wednesday afternoon. The goal is 120 signatures, likely to be reached soon given the current momentum, she said.

Getting signatures showing bipartisan and nationwide support would increase the chances for the resolution reaching a full floor vote. A similar resolution in the previous Congress passed the House Committee on International Relations, now the Committee on Foreign Affairs, but was shelved at the end of the term.

North Korea also joined in the effort, sending a letter of support to the coalition through its mission to the United Nations.

Japan continues to deny its past crimes despite the escalating criticism and protests by the international community, said the April 18 letter by a North Korean committee on comfort women compensation.
