Disgusting footage appears to show the soiled interior of a Delta flight that was forced to turn around after a passenger had diarrhea all through the plane.

Excrement and paper towels were visible in the aisle of the evacuated aircraft according to a clip filmed following the mid-air disaster on Friday.

The flight had taken off from Atlanta and was set for Barcelona, but didn't even make it to the Atlantic before the unwell flyer forced the pilot to return to the airport after the mess was deemed a 'biohazard.'

Delta said 336 passengers were delayed for hours by the incident, but customers were quick to praise the cleanup crews who scrubbed the jet and replaced the sodden carpets in a five-hour operation. The plane landed in Barcelona eight hours behind schedule.

SARSコロナウイルス2-デルタ株（サーズコロナウイルスツー デルタかぶ、英語: SARS-CoV-2 Delta variant、別名: 系統 B.1.617.2、VOC-21APR-02）は、新型コロナウイルス感染症 (COVID-19) の原因ウイルスであるSARSコロナウイルス2 (SARS-CoV-2) の変異株であり、系統 B.1.617の亜系統の1つである[1]。2020年後半にインドで初めて検出された[2][3]。

世界保健機関 (WHO) は懸念される変異株 (VOC) に指定し、WHOラベルではデルタ株 (Delta variant) に分類していたが、2022年7月時点でVOCから除外されている[4]。

デルタ株は、SARSコロナウイルス2のスパイクタンパク質をコードする遺伝子にT478K、P681R、L452Rの置換を引き起こす変異がある。これらのアミノ酸変異は、ウイルスの伝染性に影響を与えるだけでなく、以前に循環していた同ウイルスの変異株に対する抗体によって中和できるかどうかに影響することが明らかにされている[5]。2021年5月にイングランド公衆衛生庁（英語版） (PHE) は、デルタ株の二次発病率が系統 B.1.1.7（アルファ株）より51 - 67%高いことを示した[6] 。

デルタ株は2021年9月時点でヨーロッパやアメリカ・オーストラリア・日本を含めたアジアなど世界の広い地域で主流の株となっていた。しかし、同年末から2022年にかけてさらに感染力の強いオミクロン株に置き換わられている。
経緯[編集]

2021年5月6日、PHEはイギリスで最初に同定された系統 B.1.1.7（アルファ株）に相当する感染性の評価に基づいて、系統 B.1.617.2の分類を調査中の変異株 (VUI) から懸念される変異株 (VOC) に変更した。5月11日、WHOもこの系統をVOCに分類し、より高い感染性と中和の減少の証拠を示したと述べた。この変異株は、同年2月に始まったインドのパンデミックの第2波の原因の一部であると考えられている。その後、イギリスでの第3波にも波及している。

5月31日、WHOはこの変異株をデルタ株 (Delta variant) と命名した[7]（懸念される変異株や注目すべき変異株にギリシア文字を使用する方針による）。

6月7日、シンガポール国立感染症センター（英語版） (NCID) の研究者は、デルタ株の陽性患者は従来株またはアルファ株の患者よりも肺炎を発症する可能性が高く、より酸素を必要とする可能性が高いことを示唆する論文を投稿した。

7月1日、WHOは前述のイギリスだけでなく、ヨーロッパの他の場所でも同様の影響を与える可能性があると警告した[8]。

デルタ株は、SARS-CoV-2スパイクタンパク質をコードする遺伝子に変異があり、D614GおよびT478K・P681R・L452Rの置換を引き起こす。これはNextstrain（英語版）系統分類システムの下で21Aクレードとして識別される。

Transmissibility

UK scientists have said that the Delta variant is between 40% and 60% more transmissible than the previously dominant Alpha variant, which was first identified in the UK (as the Kent variant).^[88] Given that Alpha is already 150% as transmissible as the original SARS-CoV-2 strain that emerged in late 2019 in Wuhan,^[88] and if Delta is 150% as transmissible as Alpha, then Delta may be 225% as transmissible as the original strain.^[89] BBC reported that ${\displaystyle {�}_0}$ – basic reproduction number, or the expected number of cases directly generated by one case in a population where all individuals are susceptible to infection – for the first detected SARS-CoV-2 virus is 2.4–2.6, whereas Alpha's reproduction number is 4–5 and Delta's is 5–9.^[90][91] These basic reproduction numbers can be compared to MERS (0.29-0.80^[92]), seasonal influenza (1.2–1.4^[93]), Ebola (1.4–1.8^[94]), common cold (2–3^[95]), SARS (2–4^[96]), smallpox (3.5–6^[97]), and chickenpox (10–12^[98]). Due to Delta's high transmissibility even those that are vaccinated are vulnerable,^[99] albeit to a lesser extent.^[73]
