Holdsworth lived in California from the early 1980s. Cycling was one of his favourite pastimes.[48][58] He was also a keen aficionado of beer, with a particular fondness for Northern English cask ale.[46][49] He experimented with brewing his own beer in the 1990s and invented a specialised beer pump named "The Fizzbuster", which, in his own words, creates "a beautiful creamy head."[32][58] Holdsworth became a grandfather in December 2010 when his daughter Louise gave birth to a baby girl named Rori.[60]
Holdsworth died on 15 April 2017 at his home in Vista, California, at the age of 70. Initially no cause of death was officially disclosed.[61] in a New York Times article, however, Leonardo Pavkovic, Holdsworth’s former manager, was quoted as saying the cause was a heart attack.[62]

Holdsworth is a bicycle manufacturer in London, England. It was created by William Frank Holdsworth, known as "Sandy", and is now owned by Planet X Limited Based in Rotherham.
