Life on Mars is a British television series broadcast on BBC One between 9 January 2006 and 10 April 2007. The series combines elements of speculative fiction and police procedural, featuring a police officer from the Greater Manchester Police (played by John Simm) from the year 2006 who wakes up in 1973 after being hit by a car. The title is a reference to David Bowie's 1971 song "Life on Mars?".

An American adaptation of the series was produced by ABC and ran for one season from October 2008 to April 2009. A Spanish adaptation of the series was broadcast from April to June 2009. A Russian adaptation of the series entitled The Dark Side of the Moon was broadcast in November 2012. A Czech adaptation World under the Head was broadcast by Czech Television from January to March 2017. The South Korean adaptation began broadcasting in June 2018.[1] In February 2019, the BBC announced the production of a Chinese version, to be set in the 1990s.[2] A sequel to the series, Ashes to Ashes, whose title references another David Bowie song, aired on BBC One from February 2008 to May 2010.[3] A third and final series was reported as in development in 2020, although it has yet to enter production.[4]

John Simm (born 10 July 1970) is an English actor, director, and musician. He is best known for playing Sam Tyler in Life on Mars, The Master in Doctor Who, and most recently DS Roy Grace in Grace. His other television credits include State of Play, The Lakes, Crime and Punishment, Exile, Prey, and Cracker. His film roles include Wonderland, Everyday, Boston Kickout, Human Traffic and 24 Hour Party People. He has twice been nominated for the BAFTA Award for Best Actor and the Laurence Olivier Award for Best Actor.

The Doctor attempts to use the "Death Particle" to defeat The Master, which will wipe out all organic life on a planet but cannot bring herself to do so.

However, Ko Sharmus, the Boundary guardian, blames himself for the whole situation as it was his responsibility to hide the Cyberium and felt as if he did not do a good enough job. He chooses to sacrifice himself instead. As The Doctor escapes in a TARDIS, Ko Sharmus detonates the Death Particle, presumably killing The Master and his army of Cyber Masters.
