Which company was more powerful, the English East India Company or the Dutch East India Company?

The English East India Company, no doubt.

Dutch East Indian company went bankrupt in 1799 owing to a massive corruption and the Dutch government had to step in and take over the islands that today comprise Indonesia. On the other hand the English EIC was dissolved in the wake of the Indian uprising of 1857 and its rule replaced by the British state.

Both were similar to each other: each had the power to wage war, raise armies and bestow "justice" (ironically I wonder who on earth gave them these "powers" on lands that didn't fall in the realms of the British crown or the Dutch, but then was colonialism for a reason). Both had come to maintain a monopoly in their countries and trade with Asia, and both were seen as a unique symbol of their country's powers. But the EIC was vastly more superior owing to the fact that it managed to conquer the world's second most populous country and overpowered its rival for power, the powerful Maratha dynasty.

Also owing to the differences in Indonesia and India, both companies differed in their operational structure. Dutch EIC was primarily a mercantile organization which held superiority in sea trade, but the English EIC ruled over a massive stretch of land that included some of the most fertile lands in the world, a vast pre-existing network of trade and financial linkages that already existed between South Asia, East Africa and West Asia. English EIC was able to use this to convert itself to becoming the world's largest drug smuggler, and stem the flow of silver into China. Its control over India meant that it was very diversified in its operations and could supply commodities to even ready made garments as Indian merchants already had proto industries and factories.

The Mississippi Company (French: Compagnie du Mississippi; founded 1684, named the Company of the West from 1717, and the Company of the Indies from 1719[1]) was a corporation holding a business monopoly in French colonies in North America and the West Indies. When land development and speculation in the region became frenzied and detached from economic reality, the Mississippi bubble became one of the earliest examples of an economic bubble.

The French East India Company (French: Compagnie française pour le commerce des Indes orientales) was a commercial Imperial enterprise, founded on 1 September 1664 to compete with the English (later British) and Dutch trading companies in the East Indies.

Planned by Jean-Baptiste Colbert, it was chartered by King Louis XIV for the purpose of trading in the Eastern Hemisphere. It resulted from the fusion of three earlier companies, the 1660 Compagnie de Chine, the Compagnie d'Orient and Compagnie de Madagascar. The first Director General for the Company was François de la Faye, who was adjoined by two Directors belonging to the two most successful trading organizations at that time: François Caron, who had spent 30 years working for the Dutch East India Company, including more than 20 years in Japan,[1] and Marcara Avanchintz, an Armenian trader from Isfahan, Persia.[2]
