西太平洋地域事務局長

・フィジーやキリバスなど南の島では成人の8割が肥満で、生活習慣病の問題が喫緊の課題

・この地域は新型肺炎(SARS)などを経験しており「パンデミックの震源地」という。そんな中、薬が効かない薬剤耐性菌が世界で広がりつつある問題は深刻だ。葛西氏は「次のインフルエンザ・パンデミックは薬が効かないことで相当の被害を受けるだろう」と予想する。
