Coronavirus: Are Indians more immune to Covid-19? - BBC ...https://www.bbc.com › world-asia-india-54730290
2 Nov 2020 — ...India has a sixth of the world's population and a sixth of the reported cases. However, it accounts for only 10% of the world's deaths from the virus, and its case fatality rate or CFR, which measures deaths among Covid-19 patients, is less than 2%, which is among the lowest in the world.

Now, new research by Indian scientists suggests that low hygiene, lack of clean drinking water, and unsanitary conditions may have actually saved many lives from severe Covid-19.

In other words, they propose that people living in low and low middle-income countries may have been able to stave off severe forms of the infection because of exposure to various pathogens from childhood, which give them sturdier immunity to Covid-19. Both papers, yet to be peer reviewed, looked at deaths per million of population to compare fatality rates.

Travel - India's Scandinavian secret - BBC
Sep 30, 2016 —...The Danish East India company, created in 1616 under King Christian IV for trade with India and Ceylon, had its eye on the Coromandel Coast in India’s southeast for its pepper and cardamom.

Danish ships arrived in Tharangambadi in 1620. And Raghunatha Nayak, ruler of the surrounding Thanjavur kingdom, willingly entered into a trade agreement with the Danes, giving them possession of the town for an annual rent of 3,111 rupees and allowing them to export pepper to Denmark.

Their fears were to some extent based on the fact that we had used the atom bomb in Japan but had not used it in Europe. If the Atomic Energy Commission and those companies responsible for harnessing the energy of hydrogen continue to practice racial discrimination in employment, it is inescapable that this wonderful new scientific achievement will be regarded as a threat to the freedom of the darker people of the world.

Understanding How COVID-19 Vaccines Work | CDC
2021/01/13 —
The first time a person is infected with the virus that causes COVID-19, it can take several days or weeks for their body to make and use all the germ-fighting tools needed to get over the infection. After the infection, the person’s immune system remembers what it learned about how to protect the body against that disease.

The body keeps a few T-lymphocytes, called memory cells, that go into action quickly if the body encounters the same virus again. When the familiar antigens are detected, B-lymphocytes produce antibodies to attack them. Experts are still learning how long these memory cells protect a person against the virus that causes COVID-19.

...‎Driven from the brothel, the prostitute has sought to practice her profession in less convenient and more hazardous places, the hotel and the rooming house, luring her victim from the street, the café, the cabaret, and the dance halls. Organized effort of all law enforcing agencies, stimulated and encouraged by the officers and field representatives of this Section, has made marked progress in the attack upon this second line of defense. The prostitute is now being driven from this line into the open or third line. Reports from field representatives indicate that the present problem is chiefly that of automobile or taxi prostitution, both professional and semiprofessional, the most difficult of all types to control.

Elimination of this type, as well as of the preceding disappearing type, lies in the eradication from the field of the prostitute herself, and this is at present the leading feature of municipal activity. By means of public health regulations classing venereal diseases as communicable diseases and subject to quarantine and compulsory treatment when discovered, municipalities throughout the country are apprehending, examining, and detaining for medical treatment increasing numbers of dangerous disease carriers and removing them from men in uniform and civilians until cured of disease, and even, in some instances, until the end of the war. The allotment of $250,000 from the President's fund has stimulated many States and cities to raise considerable sums of money for establishment and maintenance of venereal clinics, hospitals, detention houses, and reformatories.

The incidence of overweight in young children is increasing, a warning sign for future health problems

Childhood overweight is recognized as a global public health problem because of its pernicious influence on the incidence of acute and chronic diseases, healthy
development and the economic productivity of individuals and societies. In 2019, 5.6 per cent (or 38 million) children under age 5 worldwide were overweight. The current global prevalence represents a medium level of severity, signalling that preventative actions are urgently needed for the youngest population. Overweight and wasting often coexist in a population, and are considered the double burden of
malnutrition. For example, in Northern Africa and South-Eastern Asia, the prevalence of wasting was 7.2 per cent and 8.2 per cent, respectively, in 2019, while
overweight was 11.3 per cent and 7.5 per cent.
